Most Anticipated Shows of 2024
A breakdown of the shows I am looking forward to most that will release this year.
If you are a fan of TV shows, specifically the ones below, then you are in for a wild month of June. Many of the shows on my list premiere in June and it is going to be a great month for many different fandoms around the world. We have some incredible series that are brand new and critically acclaimed series returning with new seasons this month. I can’t wait to have a month packed full of such great entertainment. Let’s take a look at what’s ahead.
'The Acolyte'
Premieres June 4
Where: Disney+
It is no secret that Star Wars film and television has not been received well by the audience as of late. But as a big fan of Star Wars as a whole I am always excited for anything Star Wars. The Acolyte takes place at the end of the High Republic Era, which fans are excited about because it’s not only something new that we haven’t seen on screen before. It’s also a time where the Jedi flourished in the Star Wars timeline, rather than the Skywalker Saga where Jedi are dying out. The show will follow an investigation into a crime spree from a warrior from the past of the show’s lead Jedi. I know that is a bit of a vague description but that’s all we know so far. But the series has teased having a lot of action in it and will hopefully tackle the rise of the Sith. We also know that in the distant future there will be a trilogy that will take place during the High Republic Era. So, we will eventually see if the show and the trilogy tie in or have some sort of interlap. One thing Star Wars fans have enjoyed about the Skywalker Saga is how they filled in all the missing pieces of the timeline with many movies and shows. It gives a complete picture, which is nice, but I think overall the fans are ready for something new.
'The Boys: Season 4'
Premieres June 13
Where: Amazon Prime
The Boys, simply put it one of the wildest things to grace the television screen and people can’t get enough of it. So, to say that this new season is highly anticipated would be an understatement. This show is incredibly popular and as has potential, by the end of it to be considered one of the greatest shows ever. I am not just saying that because it’s a cool show with sick fights and good humor. I say that because what has been produced already has been some top tier writing for the show and I find it very impressive how well they can navigate through any situation because the writing is that good. Seriously, I can’t emphasize enough how incredible the writing is. It should be studied. Okay now onto what we know so far about this upcoming season. The synopsis for season 4 teases new “Supes” while the world is on the brink of disaster. Butcher has lost essentially everything that he was fighting for in previous seasons and his team is fed up with his perpetual lies. Political tensions rise higher than ever and Homelander is consolidating his power. Butcher and his team must find a way to work together in order to save the world. Oh, and for those worrying about this show ending, season 5 has already been greenlit before the season 4 has even come out. Giving us even more to look forward to, especially considering how The Boys has made it evident that they like to go bigger and badder with each new season. I have high expectations that this new season will continue to deliver it’s incredible writing and intriguing story of how the “Supes” intertwine with society and each other in a not so pleasant way.
On another note, the spinoff series 'Gen V' leads directly up to season 4 of The Boys. So, if you haven’t seen that yet I would suggest watching it so that you don’t miss anything in season 4 that was brought up or tied into 'Gen V'. This spinoff series has already been renewed for a second season.
'House of the Dragon: Season 2'
Premieres June 16
Where: HBO MAX
Everyone is familiar with 'Game of Thrones' after all it was heralded as one of the greatest shows of all time. Even with it’s ending that left many people upset. Now, we won’t get into all of that, but it’s popularity led to the spin-off series 'House of the Dragon' which was a huge hit with it’s first season. There is something about cruel characters and an intense political storyline that people love. Which is why it is no surprise this show worked just like it’s predecessor did. Season 1 saw time jumps that left the audience split on whether they liked the time jumps or not. The showrunner for this series, Ryan Condal, spoke to Deadline in 2022 and had this to say, “House of Dragon’s time jumps are over.” This is sort of a small detail, but is welcoming news to most fans. Here’s what we know about Season 2. It will begin about 10 days after the season 1 finale. Safe to say we can expect betrayal, twists, and lots of action in season 2. Pretty much because that’s how this show like’s to operate. I expect high critic and fan reviews for the second season. Oh there is also a rumor circulating that in season 2 there will have a bloody and intense sequence the likes of which have not been seen since “The Red Wedding.” If you understand what “The Red Wedding” is then you will understand how massive that rumor is if it comes to fruition. Especially considering that “The Red Wedding” was one of the biggest shocks in television history.
'The Bear: Season 3'
Premieres June 27
Where: Hulu
The Bear is one of, if not the best written show I have had the pleasure of watching. It is somehow almost perfect and when season 2 came out I thought it was impossible to top what they had done in season 1. Yet, they did it. So, I am expecting very big things for season 3. The synopsis for season 3 has been kept under wraps very tightly. But we can infer some things from the end of season 2. It saw the supporting characters end on a good note of growth, and showed the new restaurant have a bit of success. The same can’t be said for Carmy (Jeremy Allen White), who did not end the season on a happy note. It seemed like he was taking steps backwards in his journey, or at the very least wasn’t moving forward like the other character’s were. We can expect the challenges for the restaurant to be steep and for complex relational challenges for the staff and Carmy’s almost self-destructive behavior to play a big part in all of it. It is also rumored that season 3 and season 4 were shot back to back. Which could be good news for us to not have to wait too long for the following season. Especially considering that all episodes of this show release at the same time, rather than on a week to week basis.
'The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2'
Premieres August 29
Where: Amazon Prime
The first season was heavily criticized before it premiered. But once it was out it did well with critics but continued to do poorly with the audience, who bashed it before it’s release. As I stated in my previous article, I am a massive fan of all things Lord of the Rings and I actually enjoyed the first season. I am not blind to the faults of a show but I also did a deep dive on the show’s creation and legal rights they had to deal with before the show came out. I found out that the show only had very slim and specific legal rights as to what they could use and were not allowed to use legally. As I watched the show I kept that in mind and actually thought that they did a very good job with walking that legal tight rope and the hurdles they had to deal with when making the show. I also know that the 2 showrunners of this show (JD Payne & Patrick McKay) are massive fans of Lord of the Rings and of J.R.R. Tolkien’s works. Alright, that’s enough defense of the show… for now. This show takes place in the second age of out of the 3 ages in Lord of the Rings, thousands of years before the events of Lord of the Rings that we all know from the books and the movies. It follows Galadriel’s rise to becoming the most powerful wizard in all of Middle Earth, and as the title suggests it follows the creation of the rings of power. My expectations are high for season 2, I think we can expect a lot more action and tension throughout the whole season. Now that we know who Sauron is in the show, we will get to see his rise and I am assuming he will be amassing an army to take as much power as he can. I think season 2 will win over a lot of the fans who were harsh on the first season or refused to watch it because of the hate it got before it even premiered.
SPOILERS AHEAD.
At the end of season 1 we finally see the creation of the 3 Elven rings and the reveal of Sauron. The infamous villain from the books and movies that has plagued Middle Earth for thousands of years. Season 2 will focus on Sauron’s rise and development. We also found out that many people’s favorite character from the books, Tom Bombadil will be making his debut on the screen in season 2.
'Dune: Prophecy'
Premieres Fall 2024
Where: HBO MAX
The two Dune films have taken the world by storm and quickly found themselves a massive fan base. But many people aren’t aware of how deep the Dune lore is. It’s story is one that spans over 10,000 years before we get to the rise of Paul Atreides. The focal point of this show will be on the Bene Gesserit, a sisterhood described as “witches” and who often create plans for the universe. They use their abilities to write history before it happens and will things into existence. They infiltrate the “Great Houses” to control and maneuver their plans using these houses and their governments as pawns in their giant plans for what they deem to be the correct way. Because of the Dune universe and nature of the Bene Gesserit there are very early comparisons of this show being a 'Game of Thrones' type show. I have high expectations for this show, because the lore of Dune is extensive and it should involve a lot of political drama. It seems the best shows out there involve heavy amounts of political type drama and I think it makes for a gripping and high stakes show. My hope is that this show over-delivers and if it does it could be one of the best shows of this generation.
As these shows come out, I will be writing a review for each episode that drops, along with a review for the season as a whole when the entire season has premiered. Which of these shows are you most excited for? And why? Let me know what shows you are most excited for that didn’t make my list! Also, comment if you want me to write more in depth articles on a specific series or season of a series. Stay tuned and thank you for reading!

Imma start rings of power this week
